Prayer Meeting 17/03/2016
About 9 months ago, God opened a new career path for me. Ever since I
started working in this organisation, I soon realise that the work hours does
not allow me to participate in the church’s weekly prayer meeting. Prayer
Meeting has been special in my heart. Why? When I first accepted Christ,
prayer meeting is the only way that I get to go to church and fellowship with
the others as my parents were disapproving of me attending church services. Only
in late 2014, I managed to attend regular service on a weekly basis.
Yesterday, we had to drive in to Malaysia to fetch the Pastor, who was
preaching that evening, back to Singapore. By God’s grace, I was able to
knock off slightly earlier, provide medications for my dog at home, and even
made it to church on time despite the downpour and massive jam at peak hours.
After the service, we took some quick bites with the Pastor at a
nearby cafeteria. He was sharing why he chose to be a missionary, why he gave
up his pilot career, why he shifted all the way from Singapore to China, and
why he left everything to God.
“It was God’s calling,” he said.
“How do you know?” I prompted. I was anxious to find out more. How do
people know that that’s the path that God wants them to take?
“It was very natural. Even though I failed Mandarin in my school days,
I found myself immersing and having fellowship with the Chinese community. God
closed all other paths for me. When I told him that I will go where you want
me to go, he opened the path to go to China. That was how I know. It was
difficult, leaving the career that I had built all my life, leaving my
children behind, leaving the country, but I leave it all to God.”
He was in his late thirties when he made the decision. His biggest
regret? Not becoming a missionary earlier.
How about me?
Have I been listening hard enough to hear God’s calling? How can I further serve the Lord in the way that he wants me to? |
